Vale of Lune and Three Counties Bloodhounds

The Hunt
This pack originated from the Three Counties Bloodhounds in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge and were purchased by a group of enthusiasts from the Lune Valley back in 2003.

Since that date the original pack has been crossed and bred from using Tynedale and Dumfrieshire Foxhound blood to produce the Hounds here today. The result is a much more athletic Hound, capable of crossing strongly fenced country, with a cleaner face but still retaining the pendulous ears, nose and wonderful cry of the Bloodhound.

The bloodhounds started work in earnest after the ban came into force in 2005.

They provide a quite different day for the followers, as they are very fast when they pick up a trail.

At the moment the trail is laid in the same way for the Bloodhounds as it is for the Harriers, using a scented cloth over a pre-determined route. It is hoped that as the Hounds become more experienced, they will be able to follow a ‘clean boot’ - that is a person running across the land with no additional scent added.

Year Founded: 2003
