The bloodhounds started work in earnest after the ban came into force in 2005.
They provide a quite different day for the followers, as they are very fast when they pick up a trail.
At the moment the trail is laid in the same way for the Bloodhounds as it is for the Harriers, using a scented cloth over a pre-determined route. It is hoped that as the Hounds become more experienced, they will be able to follow a ‘clean boot’ - that is a person running across the land with no additional scent added.
